Bogotá, Colombia · Design · 2019
The project addresses a problem of urban boundaries, Porvenir is an place largely made up of residential complexes enclosed by fences and turned away from the city. Between them lies a strip of parkland and public facilities - including a cultural center, a school, and the Distrital University - that follow the same “island city” logic.
The thesis proposes an urban and architectural plan to revitalize the area and transform it into a local center, with the strip as its main mediator and connector. It also introduces a series of cultural facilities and a focal point on Guayacanes Avenue, where the Center for Arts and Crafts would serve the local community.
As a concept the use of the interstice allows to explore the boundary between public and private, for inhabitants to permeate and activate the space. It develops this idea through cyclical and linear paradoxical circulation, with the staircase as the key architectural element.
More than a simple architectural exploration, the thesis sought to transform the dynamics of a place with a profound need for education, community, and employment. It was designed with the purpose of improving the lifes of an entire community. My neighborhood.
